If the trade option on Roblox is missing, greyed out, or throws an error, the cause is almost always one of five things: you or the other player has no active Roblox Plus subscription, the item is not a classic Limited, trading is switched off in one of the two accounts, the item is still inside a holding period, or the account sits in a region where trading is restricted. Roblox Plus costs $4.99 USD per month and launched on April 30, 2026, and both sides of a trade need it. On the item side, Roblox's marketplace documentation is blunt: only Roblox-created Limiteds are tradeable, so a UGC Limited will never show a trade option no matter what it cost you.
Quick answer: You can trade on Roblox only when both accounts hold an active Roblox Plus subscription with trading turned on, the item is a classic Roblox-created Limited, and the item is past its holding period. UGC Limiteds cannot be traded at all, in either direction.
| What's blocking you | What you see | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| No active Roblox Plus | No trade option on the other player's profile | Both accounts need it, yours included |
| The item is a UGC Limited | The item never appears in the trade window | There is no fix. Sell it through a marketplace resale instead |
| Trading switched off | Trades can't be sent or received by that account | Turn trading on in account settings, on both sides |
| Holding period still running | Roblox blocks the trade on a recently obtained item | Wait it out: 2 days after a trade, 7 days after a resale purchase |
| Region restriction | Trading is unavailable on the account entirely | Nothing you can change. Trading is currently restricted for accounts based in South Korea |
A quick vocabulary check before the details. A Limited is a collectible avatar item that went off sale, so the only supply left is what players already own. A classic Limited is one Roblox itself made, mostly hats and gear from 2007 through the mid-2010s. A UGC Limited is a capped-supply item made by a community creator, a category that only launched in April 2023. RAP (Recent Average Price) is Roblox's smoothed average of an item's sale history, and copies is how many exist in total.
Do you need Roblox Plus to trade on Roblox? Yes, and so does the other player
Trading runs on an active Roblox Plus subscription, and the requirement applies to both accounts in the trade. If you have it and your trading partner doesn't, the trade still won't go through. That catches a lot of people, because the error looks the same from your side whether the problem is yours or theirs.
Roblox Plus launched on April 30, 2026 at $4.99 USD per month. Roblox's own creator documentation describes what subscribers get: the ability to trade and resell limited items, publish and sell avatar items, plus a purchase discount of 10% off eligible purchases in the first two months that rises to 20% from the third month onward. That discount does not apply to items priced above 1,000,000 Robux, to resale purchases, to marketplace publishing fees, to ad credits, or to group fees.
Reselling has a slightly different rule than trading. Selling a Limited on the marketplace requires an active subscription on the seller's account, but whoever buys it needs nothing. So if the person you're dealing with won't subscribe, a straight sale still works even when a trade doesn't. We went through the full cost case in our verdict on whether Roblox Plus is worth it for traders.
Can you trade UGC Limiteds? No, only Roblox-created Limiteds are tradeable
This is the single most common reason a trade never happens, and it isn't a bug. Roblox's marketplace fees and commissions documentation states plainly that only Roblox-created Limiteds are tradeable at this time. The player-to-player trade system covers classic Limiteds only. UGC Limiteds change hands one way, through a marketplace resale for Robux.
That difference looks like this with real items. All four of these are capped-supply collectibles worth real Robux, and only the top two can ever appear in a trade window. Rows are grouped by type.
| Item | Type | Tradeable? | RAP | Copies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Limited | Yes | 241,886 R$ | 12,523 | |
| Classic Limited | Yes | 3,701 R$ | 648,594 | |
| UGC Limited | No | 78,533 R$ | 2,525 | |
| UGC Limited | No | 14,167 R$ | 999 |
Figures are RBX Invest catalog data as of September 8, 2026.
Notice the third and fourth rows. Both are expensive, both are scarce, and neither will ever be tradeable while the current rule stands. If you're building a collection you actually want to trade with, that pushes you toward the classic side of the catalog. You can browse the whole tradeable side on the classic hats collection, and we compare the two categories properly in classic Limiteds vs UGC Limiteds.
Why does Roblox say your item can't be traded yet? Holding periods
A holding period is a lock Roblox puts on a newly obtained item, counted from the moment it lands in your inventory. During the lock you own the item and can wear it, but you can't move it on.
For classic Limiteds there are two clocks. An item you received in a trade is locked for 2 days. An item you bought from another player's resale listing is locked for 7 days. The 2-day trade lock exists for classic Limiteds only, which makes sense given they're the only things you can trade.
UGC Limiteds have longer locks, and they matter for reselling. Buying one from the creator at launch can lock it for up to 30 days before you can resell it. Buying one on the resale market locks it for up to 7 days.
New traders read these as errors and start opening support tickets. The item is fine. The clock just hasn't run out. We break every timer down in the Roblox Limited holding periods guide.
Is trading switched off in your settings? Check both accounts
Trading has its own on/off toggle in Roblox account settings, in the privacy section. If either account has it off, trades can't be sent or received by that account, and the failure again looks identical from your side to the failures above.
Work through it in order when a trade won't go: confirm both accounts have an active subscription, confirm the item is a classic Limited, confirm the holding period has expired, then check the toggle. It's the last one people look at and often the one that's wrong, because it isn't something you touch on any normal day.
Can you add Robux to a trade? Yes, with a 30% fee and a 50% cap
Robux can be added to one side of a trade to balance it out, under two rules that trip people up.
First, Roblox takes a 30% fee on the Robux you include. Add 1,000 R$ and the other player receives 700 R$. If you're trying to hit a target number on their end, work backwards: to deliver 700 R$ you have to send 1,000 R$.
Second, there's a cap. The Robux you add, counted after that fee, can't exceed 50% of the value of the items being offered alongside it. Offer a single 300 R$ item and the most Robux that can ride along is 150 R$ post-fee. Trades that are mostly Robux with a token item attached are not possible by design.
Selling has its own cut, and it's worth knowing before you decide between a trade and a sale. On a classic Limited resale the marketplace fee is 30%, so you keep 70% of the sale price. On a UGC Limited resale the split is 50% to the reseller, 10% to the creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox, which means a UGC reseller nets half the sale price and needs a 2x move just to break even.
Why is trading unavailable in your country? Regional restrictions
Trading is currently restricted for accounts based in South Korea. There's no setting or workaround for this on your end, and you should be suspicious of anyone who claims otherwise. Offers to "unlock" trading through a third-party site or a login are a well-worn scam pattern, and we cover the rest of them in Roblox trading scams and how to avoid them.
Is the trade system broken? Three things people mistake for a bug
Three things get reported as bugs that aren't.
The other player just declined. A trade you send sits as an offer. Silence is a normal outcome, and no notification tells you they looked and passed.
Your offer is under value. RAP is a smoothed average of an item's whole sale history, and it can sit well below or above what people actually pay right now. If an item is thinly traded, its RAP can be stale by a wide margin, and an offer that looks even on paper can be obviously bad to the person receiving it. Check the live asks on the items leaderboard before you decide your offer was ignored unfairly.
You're trying to trade a normal catalog item. Regular hats and accessories that are still on sale aren't Limiteds and never enter the trade system. Only capped-supply, off-sale Roblox-created items do.
If you're starting from zero and want tradeable stock without spending much, the cheap Limiteds under 100 Robux collection is the honest place to begin, and our beginner's guide to trading Limiteds walks through the first few deals. Nothing here is financial advice, and Limiteds can and do lose value.
Item figures in this article come from RBX Invest catalog data as of September 8, 2026. FAQ
Do both people need Roblox Plus to trade on Roblox?
Yes. An active Roblox Plus subscription is required on both accounts in a trade. If only one side has it, the trade cannot complete, and the error you see looks the same as several other blockers.
Can you trade UGC Limiteds on Roblox?
No. Roblox's marketplace documentation states that only Roblox-created Limiteds are tradeable. UGC Limiteds, meaning capped-supply items made by community creators, can only change hands through a marketplace resale for Robux.
How long after getting a Limited can you trade it?
A classic Limited received in a trade is locked for 2 days. One bought from another player's resale listing is locked for 7 days. UGC Limiteds are locked for up to 30 days when bought from the creator at launch and up to 7 days when bought on the resale market, though those locks apply to reselling since UGC Limiteds cannot be traded.
Why is there no trade option on someone's profile?
The most likely reasons are that one of the two accounts has no active Roblox Plus subscription, or that trading is switched off in that account's privacy settings. Check both accounts before assuming the site is broken.
Can you add Robux to a Roblox trade?
Yes. Roblox charges a 30% fee on Robux included in a trade, so adding 1,000 R$ delivers 700 R$ to the other player. The post-fee amount is also capped at 50% of the value of the items offered alongside it.
Does the buyer of a resale need a Roblox Plus subscription?
No. Reselling a Limited requires an active Roblox Plus subscription on the seller's account only. Anyone can buy a resale listing without a subscription, which is why a straight sale sometimes works when a trade won't.
Why is trading unavailable in South Korea?
Trading is currently restricted for accounts based in South Korea. There is no setting, workaround or third-party tool that changes this, and anything advertised as one is a scam.
What do you keep when you sell a Limited instead of trading it?
On a classic Limited resale you keep 70% of the sale price, since the marketplace fee is 30%. On a UGC Limited resale the reseller receives 50%, with 10% to the creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate and 30% to Roblox, so a UGC flip needs the price to double before it breaks even.
