Roblox gear Limiteds are the swords, wands, launchers and instruments Roblox sold as usable equipment, and they only work inside an experience whose owner has switched gear on. Gear never sits on your avatar. It drops into your backpack, the item bar at the bottom of the screen, when you join a place that allows it, and most places do not allow it. The newest gear Limited that still trades went on sale in November 2018, creators cannot publish gear at all, and the 317 gear Limiteds RBX Invest tracks are a closed set now priced entirely on collector demand. The most valuable is Darkheart, a 96-copy sword from 2009.
Quick answer: Gear Limiteds are discontinued Roblox items that still trade and resell like any other classic Limited, but you can only equip them where an experience allows gear. A Limited is an item Roblox no longer sells, with a fixed number of copies, and the top of the gear market (Darkheart, Ghostwalker, Illumina) carries prices in the millions of Robux, the platform's currency, written R$.
| Roblox gear Limiteds at a glance | |
|---|---|
| What gear is | Usable items (swords, wands, launchers, instruments, shoulder pets) that go into your backpack instead of onto your avatar |
| Gear Limiteds tracked | 317, every single one published by Roblox itself |
| Oldest | ROBLOX Classic Brigand's Sword, May 5, 2009, sold at 100 R$ |
| Newest with a live market | Fall Periastron Xi, November 5, 2018 |
| Can creators publish gear? | No. Roblox's Marketplace docs cover bodies, heads, clothing, accessories, emotes and makeup |
| Usable in an experience? | Only where the owner has allowed gear |
| Tradeable? | Yes. They are Roblox-created Limiteds |
| Median RAP | 13,715 R$ |
| Most valuable | Darkheart, 96 copies |
If you would rather browse the category than read about it, the classic Limited gear collection ranks every gear item we track with live prices, and the swords collection narrows it to blades.
What is gear on Roblox? Usable items that live in your backpack
Every other Limited you own is worn. A hat goes on your head, a face accessory on your face, and it shows up wherever you go. Gear works differently. It is equipment, so it appears in your backpack when you join an experience, and you click it to swing, shoot or play it.
That covers a wide spread of item types. Roblox published melee weapons, energy blades, crossbows, wands, potions, vehicles, musical instruments and shoulder pets, all as gear. Two of them are among the most recognizable items on the platform: Illumina and Darkheart, the swords from Sword Fights on the Heights, one of Roblox's oldest games, whose story we tell in full in the Illumina and Darkheart history.
The distinction matters for collectors because gear cannot be shown off the way a hat can. Nobody sees your Darkheart while you stand around a hangout game. That single fact shapes the entire gear market.
Can you still use gear in Roblox? Only where the experience allows it
Gear works only in experiences whose owner has turned gear on, and the great majority never did. Roblox's own documentation has been drifting away from the feature for years. The setting that controlled which gear a place accepted, GearGenreSetting, is marked deprecated in Roblox's engine reference, and the current page on configuring experiences does not mention gear anywhere.
Roblox also removed the ability to sponsor and sell gear on a game's own page. That change was announced on the developer forum on December 3, 2020, in the upcoming removal of game-sponsored gear post, which noted that developers preferred game passes because the margins were far better.
So treat gear as a display-case item. You buy it because it is old, scarce and famous. Collectors made peace with that years ago, which is why an unusable sword can still be worth more than most hats.
Why has Roblox stopped making gear? Nobody can publish it any more
Roblox's Marketplace fees and commissions documentation sets out what a creator may build and sell: bodies, heads, clothing, accessories, emotes and makeup. Gear is not on that list, and it does not appear anywhere in the publishing fee table either. No route exists for a community creator to make one, which is why all 317 tracked gear Limiteds carry Roblox as the creator.
Roblox stopped adding to the pile too. The newest gear Limited with a real trading market in our catalog is Fall Periastron Xi, which dates to November 5, 2018 and sold at 2,000 R$ with 300 copies. The newest gear item of any kind we hold is the Eggphone, created in March 2020 for that year's egg hunt, and it was never a Limited. Records kept by the community encyclopedia describe the whole category as discontinued from around 2019 onward, which matches what our data shows.
For a collector the effect is simple. Supply is frozen. Copies leave circulation when accounts go, and none can ever be added.
Which Roblox gear Limiteds are worth the most? Darkheart leads at 96 copies
The table below is ordered by trader consensus on street value, meaning the rough figure experienced traders agree a copy is worth, rather than by RAP. RAP stands for Recent Average Price, Roblox's smoothed running average of an item's sales. Copies is how many exist. Lowest ask is the cheapest copy anyone has listed right now, which traders call the floor.
Four one-of-a-kind ROBLOX Tablets are gear as well and sit in this price range, but they have never had a market to speak of. Their story lives in the ROBLOX Tablet series history, and they are left out below so the table describes items you could actually go and buy.
| Gear | Released | Copies | RAP | Lowest ask |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 2009 | 96 | 1,800,000 | placeholder only | |
| Oct 2010 | 93 | 1,939,092 | 14,900,000 | |
| Mar 2013 | 100 | 1,214,328 | 30,000,000 | |
| Oct 2009 | 93 | 2,632,887 | placeholder only | |
| Apr 2010 | 91 | 557,485 | 7,000,000 | |
| Aug 2013 | 100 | 647,871 | 4,444,444 | |
| Oct 2012 | 71 | 521,495 | 3,500,000 | |
| May 2014 | 100 | 619,895 | 2,518,599 | |
| Sep 2012 | 100 | 736,866 | 2,250,000 | |
| Mar 2013 | 125 | 1,144,443 | 3,500,000 |
Two rows say "placeholder only" because the single standing listing is a joke number, many times over what a copy is worth. Illumina's cheapest ask is over 600 billion R$. That is a holder saying the item is not for sale, and it is common at this end of the market, a habit we unpack in why Limiteds get listed for billions.
Darkheart: the top of the gear market
Darkheart went on sale in October 2009 at 2,000 R$ and 96 copies survive. Traders price it clear of every other piece of gear, well above its 1,800,000 RAP, and there is no genuine listing to check that against. A 2,000 R$ item that now takes a small fortune to pry loose is about as clean a demonstration of scarcity plus fame as Roblox offers.
Its sibling Illumina has 93 copies and a higher RAP, and traders still rank it below Darkheart. Both came out of Sword Fights on the Heights, covered in the SFOTH sword series history.
Sword Cane: where RAP misleads most
Sword Cane is the sharpest example of RAP going stale on this list. Its RAP of 557,485 is among the lowest in the table, yet traders rank it fifth, above items carrying twice its RAP. With 91 copies and hardly any sales, RAP is an exponentially smoothed average across an item's whole sale history, so a handful of old cheap trades keeps dragging the number down long after the real price has moved on.
That gap is worth understanding before you buy anything at this tier. On thin markets RAP only tells you what happened. Crescendo and Linked Sword show the same pattern in milder form, while Ivory Periastron and Telamonster run the other way, on RAPs that flatter them.
What else counts as gear? Balloons, instruments and shoulder pets
Weapons dominate the top of the market, but the category is broader than that, and some of the odder pieces are worth real money.
Red Balloon: 97 copies of a 2010 novelty
Roblox sold Red Balloon in May 2010 for 999 R$ and 97 copies exist, roughly the same supply as Darkheart. Its RAP sits at 422,460 while traders value it far higher, and its only listing is a repdigit placeholder at 444,444,444 R$. It is one of the clearest cases in the whole category of a number on a page meaning nothing.
Instruments were gear too. The 4-String Roblocaster Premiere Guitar dates to August 2009, has 429 copies, and trades on a 114,042 RAP against a 205,400 ask. Shoulder pets round out the strange end: Fluffy Unicorn, Hungry Lion Friend and Gork, Your Caveman Shoulder Friend all sit between 90,000 and 177,000 RAP with fewer than 2,000 copies each. They look like accessories in a thumbnail, but they equip from the backpack like a sword, and they price like the rest of the category.
The Periastron line is the largest gear family by variant count, and the two-weapon items get their own treatment in the dual-wield gear history.
What do cheap gear Limiteds cost? Half the category trades under 14,000 R$
The gem tier gets the attention, but it is a small slice. A gem is a scarce, high-value Limited, and only 8 gear Limiteds carry a RAP above a million while 68 sit under 5,000 R$. The median across all 317 is 13,715 R$, which makes gear one of the cheaper ways to own something genuinely old.
Nothing in this price band has an established trader consensus value, so the table below is ordered by RAP, and every row has a live listing sitting close to it.
| Gear | Released | Copies | RAP | Lowest ask |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dec 2011 | 891 | 5,886 | 5,299 | |
| Jul 2012 | 743 | 5,683 | 5,682 | |
| Aug 2011 | 987 | 4,872 | 4,799 | |
| Aug 2015 | 1,000 | 4,833 | 4,750 | |
| Mar 2012 | 979 | 3,854 | 3,199 | |
| Mar 2012 | 1,181 | 3,402 | 2,998 |
Sub-1,000-copy items from 2011 and 2012 for the price of a modest hat is the pitch here. The Korblox Krossbow belongs to the faction line gathered in the Korblox collection, and the Overseer Crossbow to the family in the Overseer series history, so both come with a story attached.
Cheaper still is ROBLOX Classic Brigand's Sword, the oldest gear Limited we track. It dates to May 5, 2009 and sold for 100 R$, 37,331 copies exist, and it trades near 1,842 RAP with a 1,800 floor. Supply that large keeps it cheap forever, but it is a 2009 item you can own for pocket change.
Should you buy gear Limiteds? Check the fee math and the liquidity first
Gear resells and trades exactly like any other classic Limited, so the ordinary rules apply. Roblox takes a 30% marketplace fee when you resell one, leaving you 70% of the sale price, which means a flip (buying a copy to sell it on) needs to go out at roughly 1.43x what you paid before you have made anything. There is also a holding period after you buy a copy on resale, a stretch of days when you are not allowed to sell it again, which we lay out in the guide to Roblox holding periods. Trading needs an active Roblox Plus subscription on both accounts.
Three things separate gear from hats when you are weighing a purchase.
Liquidity is thinner. A 96-copy sword with no honest listing can take months to buy or sell at a fair number, and the price you see quoted may be nothing anyone will pay.
Fewer people want one in the first place. Hats get worn and gear does not, so a market running on collectors alone is more exposed to collector mood than one that also runs on players who just want to look good.
Against that, the supply is genuinely finished. No creator can publish gear, and the newest tradeable piece dates to 2018. Very few corners of the Roblox economy are shut that firmly.
Screen the category from the items leaderboard, watch for underpriced listings in the Deals feed, which needs a signed-in account, and track your own asks in the Reseller Terminal. None of this is financial advice, and on markets this thin a single sale can move a number a long way.
Copy counts, RAP figures, lowest asks, launch prices and creation dates in this article are RBX Invest catalog data as of September 8, 2026; the publishing and fee rules come from Roblox's Marketplace documentation, the deprecated gear setting from Roblox's engine reference, and the end of game-sponsored gear from Roblox's developer forum announcement of December 3, 2020.
FAQ
Can you still use gear in Roblox?
Only in an experience whose owner has allowed gear, and most have not. Gear equips from your backpack, so in the great majority of places you visit it will not appear at all.
Can you trade Roblox gear Limiteds?
Yes. Every gear Limited was published by Roblox, and Roblox-created Limiteds are the ones the trade system supports, so gear can be traded and resold like any classic hat. Trading needs an active Roblox Plus subscription on both sides of the deal.
Why did Roblox stop making gear?
Roblox no longer offers any way to publish it. The Marketplace documentation covers bodies, heads, clothing, accessories, emotes and makeup, with gear absent from that list and from the publishing fee table, and the setting that let a place accept gear is marked deprecated in the engine reference.
What is the most valuable Roblox gear Limited?
Darkheart, a 96-copy sword Roblox sold in October 2009 for 2,000 R$. Its RAP is 1,800,000 and traders price it higher still, ahead of Ghostwalker and Illumina, which both have 93 copies.
How many gear Limiteds are there?
RBX Invest tracks 317 gear Limiteds with live pricing, all of them created by Roblox. Eight carry a RAP above a million Robux and 68 sit under 5,000, with a median of 13,715.
What is the cheapest way to start collecting gear?
Look under 6,000 R$, where items such as the Gravitron 3000 and the Rubber Chicken Wand trade around 3,000 to 4,000 with fewer than 1,200 copies each. ROBLOX Classic Brigand's Sword, the oldest gear Limited at May 2009, trades near 1,842 despite having 37,331 copies.
Why is a gear item's RAP so often wrong?
Because RAP is a smoothed average over an item's entire sale history, and gear at the top of the market barely sells. Sword Cane has a RAP of 557,485 and ranks fifth on trader consensus, above an item carrying twice that RAP, purely because its recorded sales are old and cheap.
Do gear Limiteds still go up in value?
Some do, and there is no guarantee any will. Supply is permanently closed, which supports prices, while the items cannot be worn or used in most experiences, which caps how many buyers ever want one.
