How to Buy a Roblox Limited: A Beginner's Guide

To buy a Roblox Limited, open the item's page on Roblox and buy the cheapest resale copy. Any account can buy; selling it later needs Roblox Plus.

You buy a Roblox Limited from another player, on the item's own page on roblox.com. A Limited is an avatar item with a fixed number of copies, so once the creator's stock runs out the only copies left are the ones players already own, and those owners can list them for resale. You pick the cheapest listing and pay in Robux (R$). Any account can do it: no subscription, no trade request, no waiting list. The catch arrives after the purchase, because Roblox's marketplace documentation says a Limited you buy carries a holding period of up to 30 days before you are allowed to resell it.

Quick answer: Open the item's page on Roblox, scroll to the resale listings, and buy the lowest one with Robux. Buying needs nothing but Robux in your account. Reselling later needs a Roblox Plus subscription, and the seller keeps 70% of a classic Limited resale and 50% of a UGC Limited resale.

Do you need Roblox Plus to buy a Limited? No, you need it to sell or trade one

Buying a Limited takes a Roblox account and enough Robux. That is the whole requirement. The buyer of a resale copy pays no subscription fee and needs no special permission.

Selling is the side that costs you. Reselling a Limited requires an active Roblox Plus subscription on the seller's account, and trading a classic Limited requires one on both accounts in the trade. Roblox Plus launched on April 30, 2026 at $4.99 USD per month, and it is the subscription behind trading, reselling and Marketplace publishing.

Roblox Plus also carries a purchase discount: 10% off for a subscriber's first two months, rising to 20% from the third consecutive month, with Roblox funding the difference so creators still earn on the original price. Read the exclusions before you count on it. The discount skips resale purchases entirely, skips anything priced above 1,000,000 Robux, and skips Marketplace publishing fees. Since almost every Limited purchase is a resale, the discount will rarely touch the items in this guide. Our full verdict on the subscription lives in Is Roblox Plus worth it.

Where do you buy a Roblox Limited? On the item's Roblox page, from the cheapest reseller

Five steps, start to finish.

  1. Find the item. Search the Roblox catalog by name, or browse by category, price band or family on the RBX Invest collections hub and click into the item you like.
  2. Check the numbers first. Every item we track has a page showing the lowest current resale price, the RAP and the copy count, and the items leaderboard is one way in. RAP stands for Recent Average Price, a smoothed average of every sale that item has ever had. Each new sale moves it one tenth of the way from the old RAP toward the price that copy sold for, so RAP drifts slowly and lags a fast market.
  3. Open the resale list on Roblox. A sold-out Limited shows a resale section listing every copy players have put up for sale, cheapest first.
  4. Buy the cheapest copy you are happy to own. Prices update constantly, so the listing you saw an hour ago may be gone. Roblox limits you to 9 successful purchases per minute and one purchase request every 2 seconds per item, which is how it slows down bot buyers during a rush.
  5. Wear it or wait. The copy lands in your inventory immediately. Selling it has to wait for the holding period below.

A worked example: buying the Perfectly Legitimate Business Hat

Perfectly Legitimate Business Hat

The Perfectly Legitimate Business Hat is a sensible first Limited to practice on. Roblox published it on December 9, 2009, and 648,594 copies exist, which makes it one of the easiest classic Limiteds to buy and to sell again. On September 16, 2026 its cheapest listed copy asked 3,999 R$ and its RAP sat at 3,926 R$, so the market and the smoothed average agree closely.

Say you buy at 3,999 R$. If you relist at that same 3,999 R$ and it sells, Roblox's 30% marketplace fee leaves you 2,799 R$. To finish level you would need the price to reach about 1.43x what you paid, which is 5,713 R$ here. That fee gap is the single biggest reason a first flip loses money.

How much does a Roblox Limited cost? Most listings ask under 1,000 Robux

Of the 85,492 Limiteds carrying a live resale listing in our catalog on September 16, 2026, 41,253 ask under 1,000 R$ and roughly 11,000 ask under 100 R$. The median listing sits right around 1,000 R$. The lowest ask, the price on the cheapest copy currently listed, is what you would pay if you bought this second. The cheapest classic Limited asks more than 100 R$, so every listing under that line belongs to a UGC Limited.

Item Type Lowest ask RAP Copies
Long Garden Gyaru Fairy Hair (Cotton Candy) UGC 65 R$ 88 R$ 5,000
Shaggy Classic 1,545 R$ 1,628 R$ 2,071,903
Perfectly Legitimate Business Hat Classic 3,999 R$ 3,926 R$ 648,594
Sparkle Time Fedora Classic 3,050,000 R$ 3,284,573 R$ 765

Those four cover the range a new buyer will actually meet. The cotton candy hair is one of the original UGC Limiteds, published by creator PointMelon on April 11, 2023, days after the format went live. Shaggy dates to January 12, 2010 and has over two million copies, which is why it costs the price of a snack. The Sparkle Time Fedora has 765 copies and prices accordingly.

If you are shopping by budget, three collection pages do the filtering for you: Limiteds under 100 Robux, Limiteds under 1,000 Robux and, when you want to see the top of the market, the most expensive Limiteds. To buy a fresh copy straight from its creator, UGC Limiteds still in stock lists the 25,983 items with copies left.

What happens after you buy a Limited? A holding period locks the copy

Roblox's marketplace documentation states that after purchasing a Limited "there is up to a 30 day holding period when the item cannot be resold." How long yours is locked depends on how you got it.

How you bought it Locked from resale for
From the creator at a launch drop Up to 30 days
From another player on the resale market 7 days
Received in a trade (classic Limiteds only) 2 days

You can wear the item the whole time. The lock covers selling, and trading a classic Limited during it. Beginners get caught by this when they buy a hyped drop, watch the price spike on day two, and discover they cannot sell into the spike. The full mechanic is broken down in Roblox Limited holding periods.

What does it cost to sell a Limited later? You keep 70% on a classic, 50% on a UGC

Roblox's fee documentation splits a community-created Limited resale four ways: 50% to the reseller, 10% to the original creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. The person reselling a UGC Limited therefore banks half the sale price, and break-even is 2x what they paid. A classic Limited resale carries a 30% marketplace fee, leaving the seller 70% and a break-even near 1.43x.

You paid You sell at Classic: you keep UGC: you keep
1,000 R$ 1,000 R$ 700 R$ 500 R$
1,000 R$ 1,430 R$ 1,001 R$ 715 R$
1,000 R$ 2,000 R$ 1,400 R$ 1,000 R$

Read that middle row twice. A classic Limited has to gain 43% in value before your resale returns the Robux you spent, and a UGC Limited has to double. Our marketplace fees explainer walks through the same math on bigger numbers.

How do you avoid overpaying on your first Limited? Compare the ask to RAP and copies

Four checks take about a minute and save far more than that in Robux.

Compare the lowest ask with RAP. When the cheapest listing sits far above RAP, you are paying a premium that recent sales do not support. When it sits below RAP, somebody wants out quickly, which is what our Deals feed hunts for all day. Deals needs a signed-in account.

Watch for projected prices. A projected item is one whose RAP was pushed up by trades or sales arranged between cooperating accounts, making a cheap item look valuable. Projected items explained shows how to spot the pattern before you buy into it.

Ignore joke listings on gems. On a gem, meaning a scarce high-value Limited with very few copies, the lowest ask is sometimes a number an owner typed for amusement. The Domino Crown has 25 copies, and on September 16, 2026 its lowest listing sat above 68 billion R$, which tells you only that nobody there wants to sell. We collected more of these in Limiteds listed for billions.

Look at the copy count. Two million copies means you can sell yours whenever you want at roughly the going rate. Twenty-five copies means the price is whatever two stubborn people agree on that month. Items that sell often are the friendlier place to learn, and if you end up holding several at once, the reseller terminal tracks what each position is worth.

None of this is financial advice. Robux spent on a Limited can lose value, and plenty of items sit unsold for months at the price their owner wants.

Figures here come from the RBX Invest catalog as of September 16, 2026, from Roblox's marketplace documentation at create.roblox.com/docs/marketplace for every fee, commission and purchase limit, and from Roblox's own item data for release dates, copy counts and current lowest resale prices.

FAQ

Do you need Roblox Plus to buy a Roblox Limited?

No. Buying a Limited requires only a Roblox account with enough Robux. Roblox Plus, $4.99 USD per month since April 30, 2026, is required to resell a Limited and to trade classic Limiteds, so you only need it once you want to sell.

How many copies of the same Limited can one account buy?

Three. Roblox's marketplace documentation sets a maximum of 3 successful purchases per user per item, and most UGC Limited launch drops tighten that to 1 copy per account. Roblox also caps you at 9 successful purchases per minute and one purchase request every 2 seconds per item.

How long after buying a Limited can you resell it?

Seven days if you bought the copy from another player on the resale market, and up to 30 days if you bought it from the creator during a launch drop. Roblox's documentation describes it as up to a 30 day holding period during which the item cannot be resold. Classic Limiteds received in a trade unlock after 2 days.

Can you buy a Roblox Limited with real money?

Only indirectly. Limiteds are priced in Robux, so you buy Robux from Roblox and spend those. Paying a seller cash outside the platform is against Roblox's rules and is the setup behind most trading scams, which we cover in what cross-trading is.

Can you trade a UGC Limited after you buy one?

No. Roblox's marketplace documentation states that only Roblox-created Limiteds are tradeable. A UGC Limited changes hands through Marketplace resales alone, so the only way to move one is to list it for sale.

What is the cheapest Roblox Limited you can buy?

Around 11,000 Limiteds ask under 100 R$ as of September 16, 2026, and all of them are UGC Limiteds, since no classic Limited currently lists below 100 R$. The Limiteds under 100 Robux collection ranks them live.

Why is the lowest price on an item so much higher than its RAP?

Because RAP is a smoothed average of past sales, while the lowest price is what one owner is asking today. Each sale moves RAP only one tenth of the way toward that sale price, so on an item with few copies and rare sales, RAP can sit months behind what buyers are currently paying. What RAP means covers the formula in detail.

Can you get a refund on a Roblox Limited?

No. A resale purchase is final, and your way out is to list the copy again once its holding period ends, which returns 70% of the sale price on a classic Limited and 50% on a UGC Limited. Checking the ask against RAP before you click buy is the only protection you get.
